JEWELL ROOFTOP HOUSE
Private residence
Austin, Texas
Completed in 2018
Just a few houses down from two earlier projects on the same street, this project was a slightly more robust iteration of that compact South Austin modern home. This house was designed to feel much larger than its modest 2600 square feet, in part through the consolidation of all of the public zones of the house into one big great room, which in turn flows through a huge multi-slide glass door out to a very generous covered porch. Very private from the street, with a screened entry and narrow profile, it opens up completely in the back to a secluded patio and yard.
The master suite features an open tub/shower space whose textured stone mosaic is accented by glancing light from the clerestory windows. Secondary bedrooms are organized around a secondary living space upstairs, that gives access to a third level roof deck with truly spectacular views of the entire city.
