Lakefront comes at a premium, especially in a new development. The challenge is to give maximum light and view to as many spaces as possible, and that lakeside real estate within the house is a premium as well. In order to achieve this goal, the house uses a variety of strategies.
The common spaces are prioritized, along with the main bedroom. We stagger the living and dining spaces to give more perimeter and therefore more view potential to the spaces. The main living area is treated as a great room, with a 20 foot ceiling to bring all that space and light all the way back to the expansive gourmet kitchen. Program is pushed to the sides to allow unobstructed focus on the view to the waterfront. The upper floor circulation is open to this double height space to share in the experience.
On a very narrow lot, with extensive program requirements to meet, the house wants to stretch to its maximum envelope. Care has been taken to cleanly articulate the volumes of the building with offsets, planar shifts, and material changes to maintain a comfortably balanced massing and scale. Although the focus is on the water, all facets of the design have been sculpted for all around aesthetic appeal.
