DESCRIPTION

Our first major modular residence was designed to take advantage of the efficiencies and advantages of modular construction techniques, but conceived as a one-off custom design that would be indistinguishable from a site-built home in terms of finish quality. The design Intentionally embraces a more transitional exterior style to appeal to the tastes of a more traditional owner. Rather than settling for the customary low-sloped roofs dictated by the transportation requirements of modular shipping, we also had the upper roofs constructed as their own modules.

 

Although it is a newer process for building a home, the advantages of having climate-controlled environments with a full millwork shop at the shop where the rest of the home is being built allows a much more traditional custom-fitting process for all of the cabinetry and paneling in the house. Here we see a higher degree of craftsmanship and attention to detail than is common to the typical modern jobsite. We also were able to have the entire building erected on site in a matter of a few days, minimizing the potential issues associated with weather, site security, and schedule creep.

 

Although the project stands on its own as a spacious, thoughtful, and elegant contemporary residence, it also embodies a forward-thinking delivery process that holds great potential for projects like it in the future.
