WESTLAKE ACADEMY CLASSROOM EXPANSION
Modular primary school buildings
Westlake, Texas
Completed in 2024
DESCRIPTION
This pair of 7,000 square foot classroom buildings were designed around the principles of clarity, economy, and scalability. Each building is composed of 7 modular boxes, each one 16 feet wide and 68 feet long, fabricated in a shop and finished inside and out prior to shipping. This allows the construction to be done very quickly in a climate-controlled environment, limiting the on-site field work to just a few days. They are intended as an alternative to the ubiquitous "temporary buildings" that are a feature of so many schools that don't have the budget or the time to invest in a new, traditional school building expansion. The shell is simple and affordable, but the underlying design and construction are robust enough to withstand the long-term wear of student use and provide a modern classroom experience to a new generation.
